A Little History...about Fredi & The Soul Shakers

The group originally  started as The Johnson Brothers in the late 80's. An all original 7 piece band playing a style of R&B that had mixtures of Rock, Funk, Acoustic, Latin...needless to say a most eclectic group. Oh did I mention we had a Record Deal? Yes we did, with an Austrian company that soon, after our signing, went out of business...something to do with the IRS...? But I digress... So now you have 7 musicians who no longer have a record contract but are in need of $$$...oh what to do? Well like many a musician before us we went back to playing Night Clubs, which meant playing covers of other artists material. After a few changes (including the name) we arrive at The Rhythm House, a fine little band playing R&B, Soul and a lot of Blues. The Rhythm House had a great time playing small R&B rooms and an occasional wedding or fair. But still the money was not as good as one would like. Well one night while playing the Sky Line Cafe (one of our usual haunts) our trumpet player at the time (Kevin Dawkins) had asked a friend of his to come down to see the show. Enter one Miss Frederica Johnson. I was shortly introduces to the lovely Ms Johnson and soon asked her if she sang and if she would like to come up and sing a song or two....A few months later we changed the name to Fredi & The Soul Shakers.   That was 14 years ago and we've been playing some of the best R&B Soul & FUN..K ever since.

We are a 6 ( sometimes 8) piece R&B, Soul, Funk, Motown, High Energy Band that has GOT to be one of the best times you can have anywhere!!! You Will Dance Your...Off.

Fredi & The Soul Shakers has been playing the Colorado area for the past 16 years. The Church ,(House Band from 1996-2005) Patrick's , Aurora Summit, Hiccups 1,2 & 3, Q's, Cool River, Dick‘s Last Resort, The Brick House, Fortune Valley Casino, The Isle of Capri, The Adams Mark Hotel, Stallions, The Little Bear, The Peoples Fair, The Taste of Colorado and Taste The Nation are some of the fine clubs and events we play.  Bonnie Bramlett , Chris Duarte  and Fire Fall  have all enjoyed Fredi & The Soul Shakers as their opening concert act!  

THE BAND: The Star of the show is Frederica (Fredi) Johnson. Born in Myrtle Beach S. Carolina, Fredi brings the party to the house, with fantastic showmanship, a great voice and a wonderful sense of humor, Fredi makes every event come alive! Michael (Max) Schuberth is the founder and leader of the Soul Shakers, playing guitar, Key’s and sings. Schuberth runs the foundation for Fredi to work from, a creative relationship that’s been together 14 years.  

The Soul Shakers use Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keys, a Horn section plus other musicians as needed.  Rick Abitbol on Sax & Flute, leads the horn section and has been with the group for 9 years,  our newest member Brian Olmsted on Bass, Joe January on Vocals & Keys and Rod (Mr. Velvet) Martin on Drums.
